TEL AVIV (Israel) - The FIBA 3x3 Women's Series is back and ready to roll in the season opener in Tel Aviv on May 28-29.

Finally, the Women's Series is back!

After such a historic launch in 2019, the Women's Series, the pro circuit for 3x3, had been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic with the 2020 season canceled before returning last year in a shortened season. 

The top 3x3 tournament is back after a long eight-month break and the competition is set to be better than ever before. You'll see some familiar stars but there will also be a host of newcomers ready to become marquee names in the Women's Series. 

Make sure you take time out of your busy schedules, sit down and watch the show. You won't be disappointed. 

 

The best player will be in Tel Aviv

Sonja Greinacher enters 2022 No.1 in the rankings and with good reason. The towering 6ft. 3in (1.9m) Greinacher was unstoppable in 2021, where she finished No.1 in player value and was a rebounding machine to lead Germany to titles in Constanta and the showpiece Bucharest Final. 

 Greinacher is an absolute force inside and no doubt she's added to her array of moves in the off-season. And she's just plain mean because Greinacher is just as devastating on D where she loves nothing more than having a personal block party. 

We can't wait to see if she's even better than before. 

 

Those steely Spaniards are back

Spain are an obvious fan favorite. What's not to love? After a trio of heartbreaks, including missing out on the Tokyo Olympics in a gut punch, Spain memorably closed a tough 2021 with an emotional victory at the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup. 

They are back to business in 2022, where No.8 Spain are certainly much better than their seeding and hope to prove the European champs are still a force in 3x3. 

Led by Sandra Ygueravide, the heart and soul of the team and No.4 ranked in the world, Spain should feel confident but will get an early test against top seed Germany. 

Even if they suffer an early setback, you just can't write off Spain who are the toughest team around and absolutely must watch every time they step on the court. 

 

3x3's New Gen have arrived

While we love the established stars, nothing is more exciting than unearthing young talent and there is a bucket load in Tel Aviv. 

France's usual stars won't be in Tel Aviv but get hyped about watching the Next Gen of Les Bleus with the team comprised of players 25 and under, including last year's Nations League MVP Hortense Limouzin.

While Noortje Driessen, who is aged 22, is highly rated,  and a key part of the Netherlands' main squad but the Dutch have so much talent that they also have an U24 squad that is the No.3 seed. 

She's quite well known - and world famous after flying her country's flag at the Tokyo Olympics - but 22-year-old Khulan Onolbaatar is aiming to become a legit 3x3 star and lead Mongolia to a first Women's Series victory. 

Commercial teams are part of the Women's Series

For the first time, commercial teams join federations in the Women's Series. And the first two in Tel Aviv are Ulaanbaatar Amazons (MGL) and EXEWING (JPN). 

In a sign they want to go up a level, the Mongolians - like their male counterparts who recruited Steve Sir - have gone abroad to Canada and added Rashida Timbilla, who should be a natural fit through her gritty playing style.  

The Japanese have also scouted the globe and recruited Americans Natalie Kucowski and Camille Zimmerman. 

It all adds up to an unmissable event that will set the tone for the best Women's Series on record.
