Ionescu to make FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series debut in Voiron
VOIRON (France) – Excitement is building over American superstar Sabrina Ionescu’s FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series 2019 debut in Voiron on August 1-2.
The University of Oregon young gun is the star attraction of No.7 seeds USA, who loom as the dark horse in the seventh stop of the competition. The Americans have not played in the Women’s Series since in Ekaterinburg, where they finished fourth.
But the presence of the dynamic 21-year-old, the record holder for triple-doubles in NCAA men and women combined, is sure to spur USA who also boast Charli Collier, Aleah Goodman and Christyn Williams.

It’s a loaded field in Voiron headed by locals France, who have been the powerhouses of the inaugural Women’s Series with three victories and sit pretty on top of the overall standings. ‘Les Bleues’ are in red hot form having won in La Rochelle and boast the top three players in the world headlined by Migna Touré.
No.2 seeds China will be looking to rebound after a shock quarter-final loss to Poland in La Rochelle. China had previously proved unstoppable in Lignano with ZhiTing Zhang beasting inside and she looms as her team’s key player in Voiron.
No.3 seeds Italy have struggled ever since finishing second in Turin, the second stop of the Women’s Series, but the FIBA 3x3 World Cup champs can never be discounted particularly with Raelin Marie D'Alie running the show.
France’s U23 team round out the top four seeds and have plenty of eye-catching talent, particularly Lisa Berkani.
The new Women’s Series sees teams representing their national federation and 8-12 events are expected to take place this year. There are more than 8 teams participating at the Women's Series meaning that the teams are different at each event.
